Shway: The Flash References Batman Beyond

We may be seeing a Bat-person later this season on The CW, but if fans can’t wait that long for something Bat-related, all they had to do is look to tonight’s season premiere of The Flash.

During multiple moments including a conversation with her mother Iris (Candice Patton), Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy) used the word “shway” — a word that is often believed to have had DC Comics influences. You see, it’s the series Batman Beyond that put “shway” into the lexicon — a way people say something is “cool” in the future DC Universe. As Nora is from that future, it’s not surprising that she would say it.

Here’s how the Urban Dictionary describes the word, by the way:

Expression of mild pleasure or congratulations. It is generally used as a reaction to either a statement or an event of some sort.
